Puducherry: Kerala secured a commanding 179-run victory over Meghalaya in the Women’s Under 23 One-Day International cricket tournament. They delivered an all-round performance that left their opponents struggling.

Batting first after winning the toss, Kerala Women’s Under 23 posted an impressive 263/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Najla CMC led from the front with a stellar all-round performance. She scored an unbeaten 66 runs off 83 balls and later dismantled Meghalaya’s batting order with a five-wicket haul.

Kerala’s openers Diya Girish (60 off 62 balls) and Malavika Sabu (23 runs) provided a solid foundation with a 70-run partnership. After Malavika’s run-out, Vaishna (44 runs) carried the momentum forward. Despite a minor setback in the middle order, Najla’s captain’s knock was supported by Ajanya (29 off 32 balls) and Surya Sukumar (20 off 14 balls). It propelled Kerala to a formidable total.

In response, Meghalaya’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure. Only Ankita (22 runs) and Surithi (18 runs) managed to reach double digits. But four batters were dismissed for ducks. Meghalaya was bowled out for just 84 runs in 38.4 overs.

Najla CMC was the standout performer. She not only claimed 5 wickets but also executed two crucial run-outs. She single-handedly dismantled Meghalaya’s chase. Surya Sukumar, Niya Nazneen, and Aleena MP chipped in with a wicket each, sealing Kerala’s emphatic victory.

With this dominant performance, Kerala reaffirmed their strength in the tournament. It was with Najla CMC’s match-winning all-round display standing out as the highlight of the game.
